They have built a reputation for fine, natural cuisine, acquiring fresh ingredients from local farms, and utilising the endless source that is surrounding Epping Forest.Hailing from southern Sardinia, Mario and his team of skilled chefs know quality produce. Don't be too surprised if you ask after Mario and are told: "He's outside skinning hares" or "plucking pheasants" (be sure to say that last one slowly!). Our fish and seafood dishes are also highly celebrated, with deliveries from our fishmonger several times each week. Firm favourites include skate wing with black butter and capers, gourmet scampi provencale and pan-fried sea bass fillets with rosemary and garlic. And of course, what menu would be complete without traditional fish and chips? Downstairs in the bar you'll find no less than two kinds: beer-battered loin of cod, or breaded fillet of plaice, with home-cut chips and our home-made tartare sauce. It really hits the spot. If there was an award for "most old-school dessert menu" then we would surely win it. Syrup sponge pudding with custard, Cinnamon Apple Strudel, Summer Fruit pudding, Cassata Italian Ice Cream, and Bread and Butter pudding are a few of the items to grace the list; just make sure you leave room! |
